Task 1
If you are going to choose a roommate which of the following quality is more important to you.
Cleanness
Friendliness
Quietness
Sample answer:
If I am going to choose a roommate, I will choose quietness over other qualities, such as cleanness and friendliness. Suppose I am going to tuck in one evening. However, my roommate is playing her/his favorite computer game and her/his typing keeps me up. It is really difficult situation to me since I cannot just tell her/him to be quiet. The dorm room is for college students to have a nice sleep and recharge the batteries so that students can cope with reading assignments of different courses the next day. That’s why I think that it is important for me to choose a quiet roommate. (105 words)

Task 2
Some people prefer to buy new books while some people would like to buy used books, what is your opinion?
Sample answer:
While some people claim that it is important for them to read a new book with no marks or notes on it, I hold that used books can help me a lot when I am reading a textbook. Take a psychology textbook as an example. This textbook is not designed to evoke any feelings or emotions when the writer is introducing different schools of psychological theorists. When I get my hands on a book like this, what I care about the most is how fast I can get the points. The notes and highlights of the previous reader can be really instrumental when it comes to the points of the book. Plus, I don’t mind if the reader marks the points in any hideous color. That’s why I would like to buy used books. (134 words)

Task 3
阅读 标题:new gym policy
Sample answer:
The university gym is going to make some new policies. The gym plans to charge fee so that more instructors can be hired and students are supposed to book a class so that it is convenient for the gym to do management. The person is not impressed by these new policies. Firstly, those instructors who are in charge of daytime classes can teach evening classes since few students show up in the gym during the daytime. Secondly, the best part of the gym is its flexibility. That is to say, students can go to take the classes whenever they want and they are not supposed to stick to a specific schedule all the time just as they do with those courses. (121 words)

Task 4
阅读

标题:changes of numbers in the group
Sample answer:
The professor takes the example of baboons to illustrate the concept of “changes of numbers in the group”. Baboons are the kind of the animals that move in groups and the numbers in their group change. At night, they gather together and have a rest. When they are doing this, the number of the group is usually about 200. If one member of the group finds presence of their predators, such as lions, this baboon will sound the alarm to alert the other members of the group. However, during the day, the baboons go their separate ways when they are foraging for food. The number of the group is about 20. This is a perfect example of changes of numbers in the group. (123 words)

Task 5
而且之前的play he practiced really hard。
Sample answer:
The man is supposed to perform in a play in an acting class tomorrow, but his partner has dropped the class. He can drop the play and find a monologue or he can make another female student his new partner. I recommend the former. Firstly, although he had practiced really hard with the play and has to start from the very beginning with the new monologue, he can stay up late and rehearse the monologue with all the time he has now. Plus, he does not have to coordinate his schedule with another person since only one actor is needed in the monologue. Secondly, his new would-be partner is so armature that she can only reads from the paper. If he pairs up with her, her less than professional performance will certainly make him look bad. That’s why I think the first solution is better. (145 words)

Task 6
要点2:可以用before/after 的对比来展示。
Sample answer:
It is not easy to provide customers with evidence to prove that your service is good enough. There are two strategies to handle this situation. Firstly, you can invite your former customers to give testimonies to prove that your service is excellent. For example, one of professor’s friends, a painter, painted house and his business was abysmal. The painter wanted to impress a new customer with the excellent service he could provide. Then he asked his former customers to give some feedback to prove that his service was good enough. Secondly, you can use photographs to make a contrast between the situation before your service and that after your service. For instance, the painter showed a photograph of the undecorated house and another photograph of the redecorated house. The customers were so easily be attracted by the big difference between them.
