  • A is (much/a lot/far) more/-er than B

  • A is not as ... as B

  • ... is the most/-est

例句:this book is not as interesting as that book这本书不如那本书有趣。

  • How did you come here today and why did you choose that?

  – Well, I got here by taxi. This is my favorite form of transportation because it's comfortable, for sure. It's not as cheap as taking the bus or the subway, but it gives me space and freedom.

  – (过去)I used to go everywhere by bus. It was much cheaper but a lot more uncomfortable. (现在)I think taking the taxi is far better than that.

  • Do you like to buy expensive gifts?

  – Oh, sometimes I do, not very frequently though. I guess I do it two or three times a year. I buy some presents that might cost several thousand yuan for my parents and my girlfriend.

  – (过去)I wasn't able to do this before coz I was so broke in the first few years after I graduated from university. I could only buy my loved ones(亲爱的人们) things that were dirt cheap. (现在)Now, the gifts I buy them are of better quality, more beautiful and they feel happier I think.

  • Do you like where you live?

  – Yeah, I do. I moved into a new apartment last year and this place is awesome! It's in a quiet neighborhood, there's a park nearby and the apartment itself is quite spacious.

  – (过去)I lived in a very cramped(窄小的) place before. It just wasn't as good as the apartment I'm living in right now(现在), which is much better, much cozier and I also get far more light through the windows.

  • Do you often use maps?

  – Absolutely. I have a terrible sense of direction(方向感很差) and I always have to rely on maps to figure out(搞清楚,搞明白) how to get to a place, even a place I've been to a few times before.

当然你可以用电子地图和纸质地图做对比~也很好~)Of course, there's also the option of asking someone on the street, but I'm just not a fan of that. I don't think it's as easy as using a map on my phone. It's also very awkward when the person you ask shows you the wrong way.

  • Do you have a favorite sports star?

  – I think it should be Stephen Curry, who is a basketball star at NBA. He's well-known for his 3-pointers as well as many other skills actually.

  – There are tons of other superstars, like LeBron James and ... um ... sorry, only his name comes to mind. Anyway, I don't like them. I think that Stephen Curry is the coolest and the best player in the basketball world now.

  • What kind of movies do you like?

  – Well, I really love watching romcoms(浪漫喜剧), you know, romantic comedies, because they're funny and romantic and ... always allow me to have a good time while watching them.

  – My dad(自己和老爸,对比), on the other hand, is a huge fan of action movies. Honestly, I tend to think that some action movies are too violent and don't tell good stories. I really think romcoms are much better.

  • Do you like to get up early in the morning?

  – I wish ... I'm a late riser and I always get up around 9 or 10, which means I often skip(略过,不吃) my breakfast.

  – (自己和父母,对比)My parents are morning people and they usually get up at 6. Then, they go for a walk in the park and come back to make breakfast. I do wish I were like them. I would be more productive that way. I just can't get out of bed that early.

  • Describe an occasion when you felt scared

  • you should say

  – when it happened

  – where you were

  – why you were scared

  • and explain how you felt afterwards

  • Well, I’m going to describe the first time I spoke English with a foreigner. It was about 6 or 7 years ago, when I was still in high school. By then, I’d already learned English for ten years, but all my teachers had been Chinese.

  • The place where it happened was a museum. My parents and I went to the Military Museum, in the west of Beijing, to check out a weapon display there, which I was quite interested in. While we were walking around, looking at all the exhibits, a foreign guy came up to me and asked me whether I knew where the restroom was.

  • That was when I felt super scared because ... as I said, it was the first ever time I had an opportunity to speak English with a foreigner and so many things rushed through my mind in that very moment. I was searching for the English I had learned in order to answer his question. I was also worried that I might say some incorrect things and be laughed at. Anyway, I was incredibly nervous and it was a terrifying moment haha.

  • Well, I did successfully show him the way to the restroom. He thanked me and I breathed a sigh of relief(送了一口气). Later that day, I began to feel pretty proud of myself - I used some English and at the same time, helped someone.

  • That experience made me realize how important English was and I began to learn it much harder. I improved by leaps and bounds(英文突飞猛进) and could speak the language much more fluently a couple of years later. At least I thought I could speak it fluently.

)Two years ago, my parents and I went to California on vacation and we hit a few popular tourist spots, including the Universal Studios. While we were there, I encountered a similar experience. A guy asked me how to get to a place. This time, I spoke with a lot of confidence. I told him where it was and also walked with him there. On our way, we chatted about where we were from, and so on ...
