1.In some countries, the parents expect children to spend long time in studying both in and after school and have less free time. Do you think it has positive or negative effects on children and the society that they live in?

Students are meant to study. Nevertheless, they are imposed increasing academic tasks to do nowadays while the pressure on adults intensifies. As a result, leisure time is cut largely by parents and is occupied by various after school classes.

Surely parents have their reasons for pushing their children towards academic study. The most obvious one is that the competition to the access to higher education is escalating and the chances of getting a decent job is diminishing. These parents believe that if their children perform excellently in academic terms, they would have better advantages in securing a future career. This is often true in many countries where academic performance is highly valued and strongly related to their jobs. However, such practice may not help educators achieve their original benign intention.

Actually forcing school children to their utmost are more likely to exert negative influence on young children rather than positive one. Firstly with less time for outdoor sports or leisure activities, children and adolescents are prone to health problems, such as minor physical complaints and poor eyesight. Another concern is about emotional development. Too much study time deprives students of time with their parents and their peer friends, and such reduction in domestic and social interaction tends to result in poor social skills and unsatisfying personal relationship when they grow up. Finally, spending large amount of time on school study does not guarantee outstanding grades or intelligent advancement. Assignment stricken students may end up with weariness in study, which is definitely the last thing that educators want to see.

In general, I personally suggest returning childhood to children. Obviously forcing children too much in academic study is not in line with this suggestion. What the parents need to realize is what makes a round developed person and only academic performance cannot ensure their children a bright future.

3.Money for postgraduate research is limited. Therefore, some people think that government financial support should only put on scientific research than other research. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In this essay, I will give the key reasons why I think most money available from the government to fund post graduate research should go scientific research, rather than to research into other subjects.

Government funding for post graduate research is limited, so clearly decisions need to be made with regard to the research that receives priority. Our modern global system relies a lot on science and technology. So I think that this where the majority of funding should go. Countries that are in the lead as far as scientific development is concerned are the ones most likely to be successful. If we rank countries by their level of scientific development and then by their economic success, the two lists will look very similar. Scientific developments will most probably result in work opportunities, including chances for those without science backgrounds.

However, I do not think that all of the government money should go towards scientific research at post graduate level. Science is important, it is not everything. In the future, we will still need people who can see opportunities for using scientific breakthroughs for the good of society. The people who see these opportunities may not be scientists. These people might be people with post-graduate education in other subjects. Other research, into history for example, could illustrate how our society operates today or why people do what they do.

For these reasons, I think that government funding of post graduate research should focus on science, but include some for non-scientific research too.

11.Children are committing more crimes. What are the causes? How to punish them?

Alarmingly, various misdeeds among teenagers, for example, school bullying or sex assault, are now becoming a big headache in many countries. Juvenile delinquency not only afflicts the victims but also jeopardizes the community. Many efforts have already been made on how to crack down juvenile crime, but, the effect is far from satisfying. This essay aims to explore the causes of teenage crime and then represent relevant measures of penalty.

The potential reasons of teenage criminalities are complicated and manifold. First, it can be mainly owed to the disadvantaged family environment. Some teenage violators come from the violent or single-parent families. It is conceivable that teenagers growing up in such environment, in most cases, are more likely to be willful and cynical, consequently, they are more easily to be led astray. Still, the adverse effect of commercialized mass media is another factor to be considered. Nowadays, the Internet and videos are besieged with overflow of information on pornography, violence and crime. So curious are some youngsters that they might blindly duplicate everything they have seen including contents related to violence and sex. Virtually, these mental poisons have been seriously corrupting adolescents' innocent minds and arousing their violent impulse. Last, the rebellion of teenagers has resulted in their misconducts and made them conduct some anti-social offences, especially when a young man comes from baneful family background and is affected by mass media negatively.

Considering the severity of youth crime, it is about time that we started adopting some effective measures of punishment. First, it is important for the government to enact relevant legislations to strengthen the censorship of the commercialized mass media. Meanwhile, it is governments' obligation to strictly penalize those websites or TV stations that disseminate vulgar, bloody and cruel information so that teenagers can stay away from those toxic contents. Also,as for some habitual young perpetrators, it works to impose stricter punishment, for example, it is feasible to prolong the imprisonment of hardened evildoers, which could exerts a deterrent effect on some potential law-breakers. Last, as the curators of children, parents have to assume the responsibility of educating and guiding their kids, so, parents should also be short-termed imprisoned if their children go and out the prison for several times.

Overall, every approach I have suggested has its unique role, hence, joint efforts should be made by the government and parents. At the same time, every teenager who is in the formative year should establish right life outlook.
